Our Current Partnerships
The Lizard Haven Restoration Project at Discovery Park is a part of the University of Washington School of Environmental and Forest Science's Restoration Ecology Network senior year capstone project. The restoration capstone program at UW Seattle is designed so that the students simulate working as environmental consults with a prospective client. Our client is the Green Seattle Partnership, whose mission is to restore Seattle's parks to more accurately reflect the region's natural ecosystems. They are represented by Rob Stevens, who works as our Community Partner/Client. Rob has an extensive background in environmental management and restoration, and we are grateful to have his insight on this project.
As students at the University of Washington, our restoration project has partnered with the UW chapter of the Society of Ecological Restoration for the source of most of our native plants. The SER Nursery at UW Seattle specializes in raising plants native to Washington State while being an educational resource to students as well as the local community with many volunteer opportunities and internship programs.
When starting this project, we identified community stakeholders who would be impacted by this project in order to connect with them and get their opinion and insight into our work. We are happy partner with Friends of Discovery Park as our main community stakeholder, representing the interests of those who both visit and live within the park. Friends of Discovery Park is a volunteer-run organization with the goal to protect and restore Discovery Park as a natural space for and by the public.
We are excited to work with these partners to help give back to our local community and environment by restoring Lizard Haven to a more native and natural habitat.

Interested in Helping Us Give Back to Our Local Community?
We are currently looking for additional partners to help us restore Lizard Haven at Discovery Park. Our restoration project is entirely non-profit and powered by donations and volunteers; all resources put into the project from financial to physical donations, go directly into helping us achieve our goal. We are a small group, so any contribution is greatly appreciated and has a direct impact on our project.
Currently, we are looking for:
- Food and drink donations for volunteer work parties
- Planting supply donations (including but not limited to: native plants, native plant seeds, mulch, wood chips, compost, etc.)
- Volunteer groups (including school groups)
We also accept financial donations and are more than willing to discuss any other items, contributions, or ideas you might have. If you are an individual, or only looking to donate for one time, please refer to our donation page for more information.
In return for your donation, we can discuss you being listed as a partner on this project. Depending on the level of contribution, becoming a partner can include advertising on this website, our informational and advertising flyers, at our volunteer work parties, in presentations given at the University of Washington, and our site signage.
If you are interested or would like additional information, please fill out our contact form. Please include your name and organization, the best way to contact you, and the questions you have or what you are interested in contributing. We will get back to you as soon as possible!
